I decided to write this post for two reasons. First, Rhett just wrote that predestination was to the glory of God, and certainly it is. Second, Dave Hunt would disagree. He would say that predestination is the most vile thing, and cannot imagine a God of love predestining souls to heaven, and not others. Instead of making my own arguments as Dave Hunt does, I appeal to the scriptures. I appeal to the words of the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesian Church.
In love he predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
My friend, you were destitute of love when you were not a child of God. The world did not love you. But God, because of his love, he has made you alive in Christ, and predestined you to be a child of God...according to the purpose of his will...to the praise of his glorious grace!
Let us give God all the glory for his love for his people in predestining us to be children of God!
